Pet Wellness to Illness - At Best Friends Animal Hospital, we want to provide the best care for your pet, whether it is routine, surgical, emergency, or advanced care. We stand out in the community because we are available 24 hours a day/7 days a week for emergencies or for any any needed post-operative or hospitalized care.
Physical Examinations - Annual, semi-annual, or problem related physical examinations are one of the most important services we can provide for your pet. Our Doctors will examine your pet from head to toe, looking for any abnormalities. We will address your main concerns, but also ensure you are informed about every aspect of your pet's health. The earlier a medical problem is diagnosed and treated, the better the outcome.
Vaccinations - From a tiny kitten to a Great Dane, we offer complete vaccination protocols for dogs, cats, and ferrets. Our vaccination protocols are based on the latest recommendations by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) and are tailored to meet the particular needs of your pet.
Parasite Prevention - We offer a variety of parasite control programs based on your pet's specific lifestyle. As part of our prevention program, we offer testing and treatment for parasitic infections because we know preventive parasite control leads to much healthier pets and owners. The most common parasites we prevent and treat include roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, giardia, heartworm, ticks, and fleas. Several of these parasites are zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted to people as well. We base our prevention plans on recommendations by the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC).
Spay/Neuter Surgery - We recommend surgical sterilization (spay - female, neuter - male) for all pets. There is nothing more important to us than the safety and comfort of our surgery patients. We have a proactive pain control protocol which includes pain medications before and after surgery. All surgeries are performed in our modern surgery suite by skilled veterinarians. Our routine spay/neuters include the surgery and anesthesia, all pain control medications, antibiotic injection, and overnight stay at the hospital.

Soft Tissue/Orthopedic Surgery - We offer a wide range of surgical procedures from soft tissue mass removals to orthopedic procedures. If needed, we can perform epidural, transdermal, or constant rate infusion pain management. We offer routine bloodwork and intravenous catheters and fluids on all procedures. At Best Friends Animal Hospital, our goal is to perform the procedure as efficiently and pain-free as possible, to enhance recovery time.
Imaging - We offer several types if imaging to help guide the diagnosis and treatment of your pet. We offer radiographs (x-rays), ultrasound, and endoscopy. We also have the capability of submitting images to board certified radiologists for expert interpretation.
Laboratory Testing - We have leading-edge laboratory diagnostic equipment that greatly aids in our diagnosis and treatment of disease. We have the latest Abaxis Chemistry Analyzer (VetScan and i-Stat) and Hematology Analyzer (HM5) that give us results in minutes, instead of hours or days. We perform many common laboratory tests in-house but also have the ability to send out samples for specific tests to a variety of comprehensive laboratories.
Comprehensive Dental Care - Periodontal disease of one of the most common medical conditions diagnosed in dogs and cats. Besides just causing oral pain, dental disease can lead to many other life threatening disorders. We recommend proactive dental care and offer routine dental cleaning/polishing, digital dental radiographs (x-rays), extractions, and root canals. As with many medical problems, prevention and home care are always one of our goals!
OFA and PennHip Evaluations - We offer both PennHIP evaluations and OFA hip and elbow radiographs to help identify dysplasia and artiritis in our pets and breeding stock.
NEW - Puppy Socialization Parties - We offer puppy socialization parties for our young canine patients.
